Stock market is going down rather rapidly... Are we really, really entering a recession now?

Yes, we are in the bearish phase at present globally. Be it the emerging markets or the developed one. Boiling crude oil, inflationary pressures, lower industrial production and the still ongoing subprime crisis put the world economy in real pressure. Rather you can say it is the third phase of the bear and lots of stocks one can accumulate as those will be available at a undervalue.

keep talking stocks.
we are here.

Yup from an investor's point of view this is an ideal time to invest into the stock market and accumulate as many stocks as you can. And once the inflation comes under control the market will soon start to rise, bringing profit to those who have wise invested in the bearish market. Good Luck!!

Well, the economy is truly into slumps, recession is the term use to describe sluggishness in the market . Hence, IMO we're already into economic recession, but this time the boom too has lasted for a long time Very Happy

However, I'm in accord with the other two posters regarding investing into the stock market during this bearish phase. There is certainly a silver lining after the darkness in the market.

If you guys are talking about a global recession, I'd like to know the after-effects.

Are we 'entering' one? IMO we are head long into it...I tell you I've been in the claims field for more than 20 years...I have not seen so much fraud in all of those years as I've been seeing in the past six months or so...nor have I seen as many people 'cash' out and not repair their vehicles...they don't have the deductible...it's a very very scary time IMO....

I for one have gone back to school (BS Nursing) its the only way to survive, get a degree, plus masters, and you can hopefully slip by. My husband works long hours and take home very little, it's not good, we owe more every month than we make and it's only getting worse

Things are bad in a lot of areas. Lori is right. We are in a recession and have been for a while.

That being said, the business is still out there for insurance agents who have a good system and hustle. I'm still bringing in new sales. In fact, we are about 50% ahead of last year, but we are working a lot harder.
