Hi all,

I want to share a news with you all which I got from google-news.

A metropolitan police officer named Calvin Roots (age 39) has been accused of cheating his insurance company. It is said that he has obtained $8991.95 as insurance benefits from State Farm Insurance Company in the year 2001 by presenting false documents and proofs. He is accused of such automobile insurance fraud. He could get an imprisonment for 15 years along with a fine of $10,000 to $25,000.

Police Officer? Definitly a shame. And everyone wonders why health insurance is so expensive.

Really shameful. I wonder what made him do that. Being a police officer (keeper of the law) he must have been aware of the fact that committing an auto insurance fraud through scamming an insurance company is a crime and can lead to conviction even. In spite of that he had committed himself to the wrong doing. Therefore, he should now face the consequences.

I am feeling very sorry for his hapless family. How will they bear the shame?:(

Thanks Pablos, for this eye opening story. Hope it will enlighten others also.

protector of law should at least abide from breaking the law themselves , when they know what are the consequences for such an auto insurance fraud.

False claims have been at a raise in India too. As a matter of fact, the Central Bureau of Investigation is investigation the conspiracy behind several false motor accident claims, wherein police, lawyers, judges, doctors and insurance agents were involved. Several millions of rupees have been swindled by these men for decades by making false calims. Only recently this has come to light.

Shameful...yes and I hope he sees jail time for it. Insurance fraud is so rampant it is unbelievable. It is so hard as an adjuster to have to sit there day in and day out and know that you are being lied to about the details of the accident, how injured people are and how much they have suffered. I know that it is a different subject, but altogether this is all insurance fraud and the reason that insurance rates are soooo high, I wish they could catch more people pulling things like this.

Good morning everyone. While I am not at all familiar with the auto insurance fraud story, I have to agree that officer Roots made some poor choices.

How many of you remember that the former Insurance Commissioner in California, Chuck Quackenbush, was "removed from office" a few years ago because $1.3 Million that was supposed to go to those hurt in the Northridge catastrophy was conveniently misplaced - and later showed up in one of his personal accounts?

I testified in that case. Talk about a bad example. Mr. Quackenbush now lives in Hawaii.

POOR GUY!! He really got what he had comin' didn't he? That ticks me off almost as bad as what he did  ....Why is he not in the Pen? After being forced to work on the ground for the victims of the Northridge catastrophy for oh, I don't know THE REST OF HIS STINKIN' LIFE!
