Yes, the last thing that you'd need is to fall prey to different sales scams. We must note that there is nothing called a "basic coverage" which forms a part of your deal with a car rental company. Only under circumstances wherein you have any corporate agreement with the rental co. you may enjoy such a coverage. So, whenever you come across a sales agent who tries to convey you initially & upon failing to persuade you asks you whether you'd just remain contented with the "basic coverage" just reply with a plain "NO".
Remember, this is just another way of selling the coverage to you. Make sure that you thoroughly go through the papers get convinced that you're not signing up for any insurance after all.

Thanks a lot to all of you guys for sharing such valuable information!
IMO, the best way to deny extra insurance coverage during your rentals is to opt for the Frequent renter program offered by the Rental co. You'd get an opportunity to work upon your papers well in advance & also you would not need to stand in a queue. None would even question you as you'd already opted for a "no insurance". Roddick |

| When I had my auto accident, last year, I DID have FULL Coverage ( through the loan, for my car). However...in the loan, I din't have Rental Car Insurance. I was financing an older car, so, the loan din't cover it. Gosh!!.....cost a bit to rent a car. Does anyone happene to know if I can carry Rent a Car insurance, by itsekf? I mean..do I HAVE to carry it thorugh some kind of OTHER insurance? |

This is all bull about non owners auto rental insurance, there is no such thing, I have contacted quite a few companies and they all said there no such coverage for car rental liability.
If you can find me a company I would certainly appreciate it.
