I have no insurance. I have been trying to get caught up on

I have no insurance. I have been trying to get caught up on bills....etc etc. Here is the scenario. I was in the parking lot and was pullingout. the person in the handicapped parking space behind me started to pull out as well. I braked and tried to move forward before they hit me and it was too late. he kept going and hit my bumpter. It cracked my bumper and dented his. I did not mention that I did not have insurance. i just gave him my info and listed my carrier that I expired with. No policy #. I feel horrible that I didn't say anything, but I felt embarrassed. The man did admit that it was his fault when he got out of the car. He gave me his insurance card. Should I contact his insurance company to file something or just wait now? What are my next steps here? I am in st. louis, mo

Not the smartest move in this situation

i just gave him my info and listed my carrier that I expired with

Another bad thing. Could also be just as bad as giving false information, which it is.

I feel horrible that I didn't say anything, but I felt embarrassed.

How do you feel about breaking the law?

file something

What would that be? You don't have insurance remember.

What are my next steps here?

I would be planning on looking into the share-a-ride program or a bus transit schedule as you maybe faced with losing your license, being sued, etc.

Was the police called??? If not you might be a little better in the situation..but if I was you I wouldl wait till someone call me.

I might not be a good person to listen to though I'm on here on another thread asking for advice.

Yeah what the hell, just ignore it and it will go away right?

You again Trench...No she is not ignoring it I just don't think she should try and put a claim in into the other persons insurance unless they reported the accident. If she calls trying to get money to fix her bumper she will have to tell them about not having insurance and then will have bigger problems...

just my thoughts..

Yes, thats the problem.

She would have BIGGER problems if she doesn't do anything about the situation. [/b]

OP, if there is damage to your vehicle and you feel the other person is responsible, you can call his carrier and file a claim. They will need to investigate the loss and they may not see that it was 100% their insured's fault. They may, but you need to speak to them about this. You not having insurance may not affect you unless the other person (now) feels that you were at all responsible for any damage that they sustained. If so, you will simply need to provide yourself a defense in that matter.

If you don't lose your license then you need to look into insurance immediately. Start looking at companies that write substandard coverage like: (link removed by moderator per ToU- InsTeacher) who cater to drivers with less than perfect driving records, accidents, speeding, DUIs etc. They have pretty good rates for your needs.

I don't see any problem till the other person or the other person's carrier feels otherwise. It's certainly good when a carrier accepts it to be 100% fault of their insured. :)

T is right...I'm not sure I understand the facts of loss..Was this other vehicle backing?

As Tcope posted...if the other guy is at fault..then you not having insurance is of no consequence at all...However, MO is a pure comparative negligence state. So if they find you even 10% at fault..that would mean you'd owe 10% of his damage, and he'd owe 90% of yours...same if 50/50 you pay 50% of his, he 50% of yours...most (not all) parking lot accidents, there will be some comp neg..unless, again, was he backing? and did his rear bumper hit your rear bumper?

You've made some errors in judgement here...it shows that you have some integity because it's bothering you. Learn from this..get and keep insurance on your car, or don't drive it...
