That applies when its a replacement vehicle, not an additional vehicle. You can read your policy or report the claim to your carrier to see if there is coverage.

Was this an accident involving only your vehicle or was there another vehicle involved.

Well, I'm not aware of any such law. As far I understand that you are required to inform your insurance company about any new vehicle that you acquire.

They might extend the liability coverage if you have caused the accident and cover the damages of the other driver. But, since collision and comprehensive coverage only applies to the vehicle insured in the policy, you might not receive coverage for your car.

Thsi information was told to me when I financed a used vehicel. I asked my Insurance company if I could just 'transfer' the Auto Insurance from the 'old' car to the 'new' one. They said "no"..I had to get an entire new policy started for the 'new' vehicle.

Of course it depends where you are, but I have heard of very few places that would allow you to register a car without insurance. However I have never heard of that where you can drive a car without insurance for a certain amount of time and still be covered under another policy for a different vehicle that you own.
