Changing windshield make car insurance go up?

Hello

I have a cracked windshield, I saw a newspaper ad that said they will pay my insurance deductible and change my windshield for free. If I use my insurance company to change the windshield, will it get recorded on file that other insurance companies can see it? and will my insurance price go up or stop coming down?

Thank You

First.... RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!

No one gets anything for free! I've seen these companies attempt to inflate the bill they send to your company in order to "hide" the deductible amount they waived. Also, if they are truly going to discount the replacement cost by 25% or 50%, what kind of workmanship is going to be done.

There is also the possibility that they ad stated that the deductible would be waived on _repairs_, not replacement... which is typical as most insurance companies do this so the glass company is really not giving you anything.

Typically filing a glass claim will not affect your rates unless an excessive amount of them are filed in a short amount of time.

Every claim gets recorded with the carrier, so thats always gonnabe a part of your claims history! Getting access to your history would depend on a lot of things but it is better not to hide anything from any carrier while signing up for a new policy, since its not gonna benefit you in the long run.

As tcope said most comprehensive (include glass) claims are non-chargeable...there will be a claim against the policy, but should be no rate increase from it....I agree this glass company sounds a little fishy to me.I think what it probably said was that they will eat your deductible, they will get the money from your carrier I assure you.....Most carriers also have a 'glass unit' that handles all their glass claims, and have contracts with safelite or some other large glass company, and they will come to your car, replace the glass collect your deductible and your carrier will pay them direct...

An Insurance company can not surcharge you for entering a glass claim. However, they CAN re-tier you into a more expensive tier i.e. from tier 2 to tier 4. There is no SURCHARGE associated with the claim as if it were an at-fault accident, but it can and may change your classification, in much the same way having bad credit may.

If you DO 'go with this' ( and I hope you don't cuz it DOES sound like a scam to me..) and you give them your insurance information, 'they' may 'steal' your information and do whatever they want with it. Be careful!!
