Well, friend, the teenagers are always risky to insure and the insurer can actually cancel the coverage if too many claims are filed against the policy within a very short span of time.

I understand it may be an uphill task for you to find a policy, but I'm sure that its not impossible. You might have to pay very high premium on it. However, I'd suggest that you contact an insurance broker. He can help you out.

Including the young drivers to the policy would definitely increase the rate and since you've already faced the consequences of it, see if you can arrange separate auto policies for the teen drivers. This would reduce your risk as a driver and also will reduce the rate for you. Best of luck for humnting!!

The longer you go without ins the higher your premium is getting....carriers that will insure someone that has been previously uninsured usually charge more....let that teen pay the difference...whatever you do...do NOT drive uninsured...you think you can't afford ins....can you afford a 100k judgement?

I never knew that about the longer you go uninsured Lori...learn something new all the time around here. I am in agreement here..let the teen pick up a job and pay the difference.

Hi getchrist4u2

Well, teenagers can get a little heavy on your insurance policy. I think you could do a little shopping for insurance and get your teenager a separate auto insurance policy. I'm sure there will be some insurance company ready to make you an offer that you can afford.

Hi getchrist4u2

Do you and your spouse have a good driving record? I believe if you do then you should not have a problem in getting an auto insurance policy for yourself with an insurer that is willing. About your teenage son, I think you must really do a little bit of insurance shopping. You might have to pay a high deductible for the policy you draw on your son but the fact is all of us do have to face the consequences of our actions :(

Hey getchrist4u2

I think if you can get hold of a company that's ready to insure your teenage son, it will be great. I mean, in the beginning you may have to pay a big premium, but if your son can mend his ways of driving and can have a good driving record, the premiums on his insurance might get lowered by the time he is termed an adult by the insuring company. Companies usually classify drivers as adults at age 25 but some may do it earlier. This way you can hope for reduction on the amount of premiums that you have to pay for your son in the initial years. Later when your son starts earning he can take over the charge of paying the premiums himself and whatever accidents he causes will become his liability.
