Hi, its just been a few days..that I have applied for an auto insurance. Would just like to know a few things regarding the claim filing process. Someone please tell me whether my premiums would increase after I file a claim. Are there any chances that my policy may get canceled after I file a claim? What about the discounts!...do I lose them too?? Playmate-of-Texas

My friend, its true that carriers would cancel policies or won't renew policies for some cases. But you can rest assured that it would happen only for the high-risk drivers. Such risks might involve rash driving, exceeding speed limits, racing etc. So you see how each of these situations would involve considerable worth of negligence from the driver's side. Depending upon the circumstances and the carrier your auto insurance rate may go up even after the first claim. However, some insurers don't raise the rate after the first claim and also some give the benefit of doubt to their client if he/she hasn't caused the accident.

You really have to check it out with your insurer and agent.

Hey, if you're talking about recklessness then I'm sure there could be other reasons e.g. driving under the influence of alcohol. It would be the same consequence if the driver would be influenced by any other illegal substance while driving. There are severe penalties if the driver gets caught for driving under the influence & for causing severe injuries or damages to property & human lives. Evan

Hi!
If you'd file a claim & later on the claim gets rejected on account of a mistake on your part, then the carrier would make a note of it in its records. The next time you'd file a claim, it is better that you check the grounds very well. Your carrier would definitely run a check over the intention & the outcome of your previous claim. In case it again gets rejected then you may expect changes coming your way. Such events may suggest changes in terms of your coverage costs or may even change your coverage structure. Think again! Chances are excellent that if you file a claim that is your fault, right after taking out a policy that you will minimally lose your discounts...you could also see a rate increase, and a cancellation...it really depends on the company and they type of claim.

..do you have any safe driver discount!
If you have it and even after that if you're involved in any at-fault accident, then I believe your discount option will be removed. But your claim probably would not influence discounts on any multiple policies that you may have, as also those discounts which you may avail for being a good student. So, I'm sure you'd be careful not to lose your discounts ever after. Thanx, Roddick
