I recently got a ticket and the court date is sceduled for the 4th of september.
It was for careless driving which constitutes 2 points, i was wondering if i could be able to take the defensive driving classes now so that the point reduction will be effective when i go to court.
Or will the point reduction be ineffective until i accutally get points issued?

Why is their a court date? Normally you pay the fine and only get a court date if dispute the ticket (or something else happened). Points don't matter to the court... why are you going to court is the question.

it was kindof a double wammy cuz i have a provisional liscence and i was driving past 12 i think the court date is for that .

Well, answer still stands... the court does not care about the points or how they are addressed. They are _only_ addressing the actual infraction. Taking an educational course is not going to change that (well, it might _slightly_ show the judge that your trying to do the right thing but probably won't hold much weight and still the points don't matter).

The defensive driving classes won't help you to reduce the points, but can definitely help you in improving your driving skills. Moreover, it'll have an effect on your future insurance premium. The insurer may award you with a discounted rate, as it'll show that you have tried to improve yourself as a driver.

Clarance, the defensive driving class has its own benefits.
Since its regulated by the state laws, it'll help you to learn the state requirements and laws for better driving.
It'll help you in lowering the points and tickets.
Most importantly, the defensive driving class can help you in lowering your insurance premium. Depending upon your state law and insurer you can get around 10% deductions in your rates for three to five years.
Though such courses are regulated by the state laws, but generally covers the followings
IMO its not a bad idea to undertake a defensive driving class only to improve your driving skills. In some state the students are also allowed to take up online course if they don't have time to attend the classes.

the defensive driving class doesn't help you to reduce the points. however, it certainly helps in making you a better driver next time, and this would not be repeated
