Hi,
I recently pulled out into another car causing him some damage. when i stopped and we looked at the damage he said that most of what was there was already there and the only damage id caused was a white line (probably scratched paint) of about 30 - 40 cm. He has taken his car into a garage and has been quoted £375 and told he will have to have the panel resprayed, would the whole panel need to be resprayed for this small piece of damage, i dont want to end up paying for what was already there to be fixed as well.

Bottom line, yes. In many cases more then just the one panel would need to be painted. If the repainted area was close to another panel many shops would paint that adjacent panel so that it matched.

Ok I need you to convert this to inches and dollars for me..then the yr/make/model (or as close as you can get) to the vehicle..and WHAT panel on his car? bumper, fender, doors, 1/4s what? also what color is it? all of this makes a huge difference..Also if only one panel is being repaired, then there would be full paint time given on that panel...

since he was honest enough to say that most of the damages were already there and not caused by you, i dont think you'll have to fork out the entire amount. the car owner sounded like a nice guy, so perhaps you could discuss with him how you should compensate him, and how the amount should be split between the two of you. from what i understand, you only caused a minor portion of the damage, so if the car owner was nice, you wont pay for the whole thing.

since you only caused a scratch on his car, i don't think that he will be so unreasonable as to make you pay for the whole car. anyway, he has no right to make you pay for any of the previous dents(but it all depends on where you are from). try to negotiate with him, don't get yourself paying for all the damaged he caused by himself. like seven said, he seems like a nice guy.

EXTRA: anyway i think he might as well get a new car, with all these damages. lol

Hi!

Well, it seems closer to those fire damages caused to the floor of a house. Sometimes you'd just need to replace tiles constituting a portion of the floor. On the other hand you may also meet with floor damages when you'd need to replace the entire floor in order to generate that prior uniformity. Thanks, PalinRome
