Get a copy of your credit report. Liens are almost always listed on your credit report.

If you paid it off in 2006 then you should've got a lein release from the bank, and the title if it was a title holding state.

Lori has a good point there. If you want to see a copy of your credit report and just check you can get a free look at www.annualcreditreport.com. You can pull your report from one of three agencies or all three if you want. In my opinion Trans Union doesn't list as well as Experian so you may want to use them first. Also you should always check your credit regardless..its easy and you are given the three free pulls so you can check every four months or so. In this crazy world it is better to be safe than sorry.

All liens must get mentioned I the credit report, hence you may find out about the financier from it.

Also contacting with the dealer may give you some idea. If you have got the car financed by the dealer, all information about the banker might be with the dealer.

Another way to identify the financier is by investigating at the DMV with the VIN number.
