I just had my mounted DVD player ripped off the roof of my car. Should this be covered by auto insurance? I have full coverage.

yep...you are talking about the ones that come from the dealer (when you bought it) and it's permanently mounted in the car right? if you have comp coverage yes it's covered,

If it's the one that has come with the car it might get coverage under the comprehensive coverage of the insurance, but if you have installed it after purchasing the car then you might not receive the coverage depending upon the policy verbiage.

You need to check with the policy document to see if you are covered for the aftermarket parts or not. some insurer may cover the modifications a s well.

I'd say that most policies would provide coverage but there are probably quite a few that would not. You really need to refer to the policy and coverage for aftermarket equipment (if this is the case) and/or to see if there are any exclusions for this type of equiptment.

most of the policys i deal with if they are installed when the vehicle is purchased then there isn't a limit...if they are a/m add ons, then the 1k limit kicks in unless of course that limit was increased thru endorcement

So either way it could be covered? I imagine a lot of people buy these after market equipment....sometimes it is cheaper than having it come with the vehicle.

sorry looks like I forgot to add, AND they are permanently attached to the vehicle..

That would make sense. Then it would almost have to come with the vehicle because anything after market could be "easily" removed and not be considered permanent. If it was installed by the manufacturer I would imagine it would be alot harder to remove..if you could at all.

no, you can have an a/m one permanetly attached...it just has to be screwed or bolted, attached in some manner to the vehicle.

Correct. It can be an aftermarket unit, installed by a local shop - providing it is permanently attached (replaced factory head unit, etc).

if it's even screwed to the floor it's covered, at both company's I've worked for...years ago an a/m stereo had to be in the factory 'hole' but no more.
