Well, aaa, Studapollo, I'm guessing if you've never heard of a GPA yours maybe isn't so good....I'll try and explain it.

It's the 'average' of all of your 'grades'...

an 'A' is worth 4.0
a 'B' is worth 3.0
a 'C' is worth 2.0
a 'D' is worth 1.0
'F' nothing...

(and yes, in many high schools they now have 'weighted' classes where an 'A' is worth 5.0 and on down the line...so that makes it a little confusing some times, but I don't think we have an honors class problem here)

so you got the following grades:
A in math
A in english
B in history
B in biology
D in gymn ( )

your GPA is a 3.0

most auto carriers will give a discount for students with a good GPA

Why do you want to know about it, anyway? Are you planning to get auto insurance?

As Lori has said auto insurers would give discounts on the premium rate for the young driver if he/she can manage to maintain a GPA around 3.0 at school. This is called good grade discount.

I'm 20, a student in Cincinnati and my mom says I'd need to manage my insurance from now on.

Are such discounts available in North Kentucky? Studapollo

Hi Lori,

The average [(4.0+3.0+2.0+1.0)/4] doesn't come to be 3.0, did you take any other example?

This is a company to company thing...you'll need to check with different carriers to find out. What is your GPA?

Steven, admittedly I'm no 'math genius' but, you need to check it again...Honey, I don't even know where you came up with the numbers you have..there are no '2's in my example, (which would've been a 'C' grade)...

The example I posted:

A in math = 4.0
A in english = 4.0
B in history = 3.0
B in biology = 3.0
D in gymn =1.0
equals 15, divided by the total number of grades (which is 5) equals 3.0

Where have did I lose you? Let me know if this still isn't making sense to you so I can clear it up...and where did you get the '2'?

Sorry...thought that the average was determined out of a combination of A,B,C and D. It was a mistake but now it's clear!

Thanks, Steven
