The tele-insurance adviser told me about the multiple car discount the other day.
May I know how it works and also the other Auto insurance discounts that a carrier offers?

The best way to get a good price on insurance is to shop around. There are pelnty of places to get great quotes, instantly online from different insurers and this can end up giving you the best savings possible.
In terms of discounts, you'll want to combine as many covers as possible with the same insurer, install anti-theft devices, go for a low mileage discount if you can and pay your premium annually rather than monthly. this can get you a bit of a cut in your premiums.

| If you have multiple cars and get them covered under the same carrier, then this carrier might offer some discount. Again, if you have multiple drivers in your household and all of them get covered under the same carrier, then you'd be eligible for this discount. |

You may also avail the multi-line discounts. There are insurance carriers who'd offer a variety of insurance services e.g. auto insurance, home insurance and renters insurance to you at once. If you'd apply for more than one product with them, you'll be eligible for a multi-line discount. On the other hand, there are carriers who'll only sell auto insurance and therefore can't offer such discounts to you.

| You may also achieve insurance discounts in case you have a good driving record. Drivers who haven't been involved in accidents, haven't had any ticket during the past 3-5 years would be considered as "safe drivers". Your insurer would go through your driving record before they'd offer such discount to you. |

| Simply install some of the car safety devices e.g. anti-lock brakes, automated seat-belts, air-bags etc. You may instal these safety features from the very first day while you purchase your car. I'm sure you'd get good coverage offers with nice discounts. |

Seriously ??? Did you install your air bags and seat belts? How did you figure out how to do that?

You don't need to do that yourself!
As far I remember, the safety devices were fitted during the car purchase and it certainly lowered my rates.
I had enrolled with a company wherein they offered a car alarm and even placed a camera below the bonnet of my car. |

There are also some state-specific discounts available in the market today. Once you've attended a full time course and obtained B grade point average then you might achieve some discounts.
Again, if you've attended a defensive driving course you might get some discounts. All these discounts may vary from one state to another. |

Some states allow the military guys (both retired and active) to avail the benefit of a reduced price. If they get relocated to overseas places then they may also avail some other discounts. |

IMO you'd always get discounts if you're clever. Ask for discounts while signing up. Believe it or not it's a great way of achieving a low premium.
