My son doesn't share the same household anymore and drives his own car. His driving license got suspended by the DMV and they blamed it to his SR22 auto insurance lapse. Someone, please get me updated on the mandatory SR22 requirements.

| I guess such requirements would vary between different states. At the same time, I believe that you'd need to carry SR22 auto insurance for at least 3 years following a DUI offense. Confirm your state requirements with an attorney! |

The SR22 policy is not just like any other auto insurance policy. It's a high-risk policy which is needed after a DUI offense. You'll fail to satisfy the state requirements, once the SR22 insurance co. rejects your coverage plea. Under such circumstances, your license will be suspended by the DMV.

If you're a premium defaulter, your SR22 insurance provider will inform the DMV about the coverage lapse. The DMV will be informed even when such lapses occur for 1 day while you might be shifting to another carrier.

You're required to carry it for this 3-years period ever since your driving license gets reinstated. Contact any DUI lawyer in order to get updated with the state requirements. |
