| If you allowed them to drive, then they have insurance. Yours. |

The driver is required to carry liability insurance upon him. The liability coverage would protect him from probable lawsuits if he causes damages to others. If this is what you want to know then ‘Yes' the driver too needs to be insured.
Needless to say that the liability coverage also covers the driver when he is driving other's car. in fact, without liability coverage you would be considered as uninsured. |

Yeah, if you are allowing other people to drive your vehicle then they should ideally be listed in your plan. However, if they are not listed then they would be considered as permissive drivers and will be covered by your plan. Anyway, if I was you, I wouldn't have let someone to drive my car who has no insurance.
Hope I was helpful. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

| I have a neighbor who constantly asks me if she can drive my car. She DOESN'T drive ( 'physically' capable to, however, she doesn't) and she won't 'come straight' with why she can't. She SAYS she ahs a DL's. I don't even know THAT for sure. Either way,....just to be safe, NO WAY will I let her drive my car. It's the only transportation I have. |

OP your car insurance covers anyone you allow to drive your car. unless they are excluded in your policy. _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. Then, is there any difference in coverage for those who are permissive and those who are enlisted? _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

no there isn't but if you have someone living in your household, or someone that regularly drives the vehicle they must be listed as a driver on the policy...the type of coverage for the driver we are talking about in this thread is for the occasional driver...you loan your car to me for the day type of thing...anyone in your household must be listed as a driver on your vehicle or one of their own.. _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. No, not if he just occassional drives it...if it is available and he uses it regularly then you should..does the title and all paper work have your address as well? and your boy is not on any of the paper work? _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. | That's kind of the same question I have, too, LORI. When my son starts driving my car, does HE need a policy of his own,..OR..is he 'covered' under MY policy? I'm getting a few 'conflicting' answers to this one. |

| He certainly needs to be insured, SD if he is going to drive and its said that the cheapest way to insure a young driver is by adding him to the parent's policy. And, since he is going to drive your car, you definitely need to be preempt in disclosing it to the insurance company. |

I think if your son regularly drives your car you should cover him. Otherwise PIP will cover your son unless you have purposefully listed him out. Any injury to someone driving your car with your permission will be covered under PIP. So even if your son doesn't live with you if he is a regular driver get him insured. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

I'm getting a few 'conflicting' answers to this one. | SD your situation is different as he's a memeber of your household...he doesn't need his own policy unless he has a car.. he will/does need to be added to your vehicle as a driver when he gets his license... _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake.
