Okay so last night I was driving on the high way and their was a traffic jam moving very slowly. It was raining heavy. The cars started to move so so did I and the driver infront of me slammed on her breaks and i hit her. Their is no damage done to my car barely but she has a big dent in her bumper. We got out of the car and i gave her my name and number and she got my plate number adn that was it. Than the cops show up at my hosue saying I flee'd the scene of an accident but i also got fines for no liscense reg. or insur. I know i shouldn't have been driving Ive seen the other posts i knwo this much. What I am wondering besides the fines I got, I really dont feel this is my fault... it was wet and a traffic jam... Am i looking at a lot of trouble here? will her insurance company sue me or what goes on in a situation like this. I live in prince edward island canada and ive been lookign on the net for answers and I havent really found any yetPLEASE HELP-+ :(

..oh now come on you know this was your fault...did the guy behind you hit you? was there a hundred car pile up? course not you were too close for conditions and didn't have control of your vehicle...are you even implying that had the guy behind you hit you, you wouldn't think it was HIS fault? I understand you're grasping at straws, but best to drop that defense, because there is none...I'm confused how the cop could give you a ticket for leaving the scene did he not see the paper where you gave her your name and address? If you did that then that proves you did not flee.

Am i looking at a lot of trouble here?

Depends on your state...certainly a lot of fines..

will her insurance company sue me or what goes on in a situation like this.

If they have to they will, they will fix her car then send you a bill to pay it back including her deductible most likely you can work out a payment plan with them..if you hide, or don't make arrangements then yes, it's possible they will get a judgement against you then garnish your wages, or whatever means allowed to collect on a judgement of this type in your area...

Canada and the US's ins laws are pretty closely related...i'd bet on the scenerio I gave you.

You probably are into trouble already by driving without license and insurance. In rear-ending accident the car which has rear ended the vehicle is deemed to be at-fault under normal circumstances. Its hard to believe that you didn't get the time to react before the impact. At what speed the cars were moving at that time?

I'm not an expert of Canada auto laws but the other driver's insurer may come after you to recover the damages that they have paid to their customer.

Okay I have been in contact with the girl I was in an accident with. She had a toyota yaris... and it's a leased car. Does anyone know a rouch estimate of how much that car costs for a bumper replacement????I am just wondering - anyone who has any ideawould be a great help!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks a lot :D

based on my local rates which are 46.00 and 28.00 a rear cover for an 08 yaris is anywhere from about 450-1000.00 (installed and painted) just depends if the cover is all that is needed or if the absorbers, and rebar, brackets clips etc are damage...could be lot less too if the cover can be repaired

ALL of this on Thanksgiving, too!!! YIKES!! I agree with LORI. If the 'conditions' were as horrible as they were, then you should have had a good 1 to 2 car lengths away from the car in front of you. I live in PA. If you got caught without insurance, you can (possibly?) go to jail. Without a license?.....if you are illegible for one, you MAY not get it back for a while.

Everyone knows that its your fault. Never drive to closely especially on a wet road.
I'm going by Texas law. I know that unless the other diver had full coverage insurance they are not going to get involved. The other driver can hire a lawyer to sue you for damages to the car plus personal injuries for anyone riding in the car.
You will also be prosecuted by your local law enforcers for your traffic offenses & possibly be charged with hit & run depending if you have proof that the other car will agree that you stopped to render aid & was satisfied with the information that you gave them. If you stop and leave a phone number and leave before the other driver releases you its for a reason. If you were under the influence of drugs or alch. this will also affect your punishment.
What I suggest you do is hire a lawyer to see if you can lower your fines or jail time.
You should also settle out of court with the other driver. First off say your sorry for any inconveniences or misunderstandings and offer to have the car repaired by a respectable body shop.

You can expect fines, probation & mabe even jail time. Just try to get as little as possible. I can tell you one thing if you even say that the other driver was at fault the judge will have no mercy and you will get the max penalties.

I would hold up on hiring the lawyer until you see if you will actually need one. You may have to go and pay the fines and then make payment arrangements to pay back the other drivers insurance compa ny but jail time may not even be involved here unless your in the habit of hitting people and not having insurance.
