I'm from Florida, but I'm planning to use a friend's car during my stay in Oklahoma. Do I need insurance to stay protected?

| In general all drivers are covered if the vehicle is insured. Please ask your friend to go through his policy papers and check if things are like that. |

Segments of your personal auto insurance may cover you e.g. UM, liability, medical benefits coverage etc. Go through the terms of your policy as well as the exemptions.

Your friend specifically needs to see what happens to the liability limits. Some insurers reduce limits to state minimum when the vehicle is driven by an unnamed driver.
Your own auto policy covers you when you drive a
"non-owned" auto, and can be used to cover any claims for which you are insured.

I don't think there would be any problem, if you're listed with your friend's carrier.
You may check the liability limit on your friend's policy, and also check out the other paper works as suggested.

| Your safest bet is to have your friend call his/her agent and tell them that you will be using the car for some time. They will likely need to add you to their policy, once this is completed you should be all set. |

| All depends upon your friend’s car insurance company and coverage; it would be a good idea for him to check directly with his insurance agent on whether he can drive with just permission or needs to be included in his friend’s policy short term. Which company are you insured with and what coverage do you carry? I’m with (link removed by mod-lori) so unless you’re with them too, what works for me might not work for you. |

My best friend drove my car for quite sometime. She wasn't on my Insurance policy, however, she DID have Insurance of her own. She was driving my car because her car wasn't going to pass Inspection anymore and she was looking for another vehicle. My Insurance Co had said "she was fine", etc. |

That's all well and good, but every carrier has its own method of dealing with this in the contracts it issues to its insureds. Your experience may not be that of anyone else's.
It is unwise for anyone to assume that their insurance works the same as a friend's or neighbor's -- even if obtained from the same insurance company -- for the purpose of giving or receiving advice such as this.
