Granted it should be up to the person with the policy to make sure enough information is given to other relatives so in case of death they could locate a policy but not everyone does this.

what i personally believe that everyone who has these important docs should keep the digital (scanned) copies on his mail id.All the physical documents can be safely kept with the bank locker.
Whenever one requires the policy docs for any purpose (most of the time they ask for duplicate copies) so one can print it from the mail where they have kept.So their docs are also safe with the bank locker and when (generally after the death of the person, nominee has the right to open the locker in the presence of the court officials) so eventually he gets all the docs regarding policy papers easily available in a single stroke.

This i suppose could be a practical solution.any expert comment are invited.

How many people keep their policy papers in the bank locker? Most of people believe that their home is the safest place. But they don't understand the papers are easily misplaced.

Hello Horizon,
FindYourPolicy.com was created to solve the problem of lost policies. Whenever someone buys a life insurance policy they should automatically register on a central database. This way anyone looking can search the database for free and find a policy. We created this because it personally happened to me and I was frustrated. Due to no National Statewide or Government database that you can go to for help. FindYourPolicy.com is now that database. We are a very low risk database. We never ask for your social security number, policy numbers or account numbers. All a beneficiairy needs is a company name and that is all we supply. We are in talks with Insurance Companies to impliment this automatically when a policy is sold. Due to the privacy issues that Insurance Companies must follow, our service is very enticing to them because of the little information that we store. FindYourPolicy.com also sends monthly emails to the members and up to 5 beneficiaries so that they all know the members information is on our database. $14.95 a year comes out to $1.25 a month which is well worth the protection of never loosing your life insurance or other assets. You also have the capability to store the bank name that holds your safe deposit box and the insurance company name that has your Annuities. You can also list banks where you have bank accounts at or company names that hold your 401k's.
FindYourPolicy.com is the only database that you can go to for help. I beleive that everyone should sign up as soon as they get a life insurance policy. It really is amazing how many people loose track of their information.

I would ask your mom if she could find any letters FROM the insurance company in the past that could be laying around. These letters could be the monthly letters they could have sent out to collect payment, or letters that have info on news or updates with his policy/insurance company. That's how my aunt helped my grandma find one of my grandpa's policy. Also, ask your mom if there is anything mentioned in his bank account statements, mabye he could have paid his premiums and the insurance company's name will show up. Good luck!

ok, first of all check any documents left behind by your father. it may provide a clue to the policies, if there's any. check out the websites that those guys provided you, it may help tremendously. also, do you have any siblings? if so, ask if your dad told them anything. seek help from relatives as well.

good luck finding it.
