I hit some ice and my car went into a ditch. It is partial at fault, but in any event I have a $1000 deductible, when do I have to pay this? I did alot of damage, just a little to the body but I wrecked my trnasmission. Is there a chance I pay this over time or do I have to pay before they will fix my car?

My car is nondrivable and they will give me a rental for 16days, but I don't have $1000 to pay right now. Do i Pay it to the insurance company or to the garage?

Your insurance company will pay the cost to repair the vehicle less the $1000. So the remaining amount you would owe to the shop when it's repaired. When you have it repaired it up to you.

So it is up to mew to work something out with the mechanic

Also I was wondering I was skiddign towards another street and slammed the car to reverse which is likley what caused the damage to the transmission, will this be covered just the same?

It should be covered. It probably made the vehicle skid more though.

Yes, you need to work things out with the repair company.

Okay, let me first clarify that there is no way you can escape paying the deductibles. You have promised to contribute $1,000 towards the claim when you have taken out the policy. And, as T has mentioned the insurance company would only pay for the bills minus your deductible, or, if its already in the bodyshop then may wait for you to pay the deductible first and then pay the rest, in which case you may have to pay $1,000 upfront.

I was in an accident last winter. I hit 'Black Ice and hit a guardrail 'head on'. I din't hit anything/anyone else..thank goodness! My deductible was $500.00.....the damages came to $2200.00. My Insurance paid all BUT the deductible to the garage who fixed my car. However.......when this accident happened, my Insurance company DID say it was NOT a 'No Fault' accident ( I think that's the words they used). How can the accident be ANYONE'S fault when it was just that..an accident.. and I din't hit anyone?

Most garages are going to expect a full payment when the job is completed. Some may settle for half down and then a payment arrangement. Is it possible to by pass something to make up for the deductible..like maybe settling to get it painted later when the person has the money or something else along those lines? I do not know for sure but maybe that is an option.

One option you 'might' have is to not repair the minor body damage

did alot of damage, just a little to the body but I wrecked my trnasmission

and use that money toward your deductible thus reducing the amount of your deductible, and yes, this is allowed, not against the law nor is is fraud....as an example you have 3k in damages with a 1k deductible ins. company pays 2k tranny costs 1500 body work is 500 skip the body work thus reducing your deductible to 500 but remembering should you wreck again and have not repaired that body work they won't pay for it again.

I thought once you DO have a Deductable 'in place', on your Insurance policy, you can't change it right in the middle of things? Hope you can understand my question, LORI.
