Thanks for the explanation. Speaking of hitting a deer and rental coverage it reminds me of an issue I had with my insurance company.
A few years ago my hubby (of course) hit one wiht my grand am and took out the whole headlight section on the drivers side. We called the insurance company and THEY decided that I should not drive it into the repair shop for an estimate. They person (adjuster or rep?) set up for the garage to come and tow it, even though I wanted to just take it in. To make a long story short when the insurance company spoke to me later they said they could deny paying the towing charges since my car could have been driven into the garage. I told them that is what I wanted to do but was told not to by another person in the company. In the end they paid the towing.
The reason the first person said they did not want me to drive it in is because without the headlight and driving light on the drivers side it could eb considered a hazard and if something happened along the way when I was taking it in that claim could be denied. Never asked a lot of questions...just was glad the matter was resolved quickly. |

Hi, It had to be the claims dept. We called the 1-800 # to report the claim and this is what they told me..not to drive the car. The next day they called to let me know what plans were for the car and I spoke with someone different and thats when I got the line about not paying for the towing. I explained to that person what was said when I fisrt called in and she said she would let it go but next time we could easily tape the lens and save the towing expense. I was upset too but figured if I made too mauch of a stink she would not let the towing be paid and I would be responsible. So I see I did do the right thing in getting it towed. I was just following the first persons suggestion.
I did originally call my agent but they informed me that I had to call the claims dept. so they were not a part of any of this. |

That's just plain bs...which company is it? I'd be willing to bet that the VP of claims doesn't know that...this was clearly a stupid person you talked to, any time anyone even expresses the 'slightest' notion they are uncomfortable driving a vehicle after an accident most adjusters will insist it be towed....as an example let's say you followed her advise and taped it up, then on the way to the shop, you get in another accident because someone couldn't see your light...cha-damn-ching $$$$ that company would be on the hook for about a ga=zillion bucks...idiot .....i've never heard of an adjuster saying this...there are many times when owners will tell me, 'don't worry about towing i'll just tape it up and drive it in'' i always offer that they should let me tow it (and yes the conversation is recorded)...i just can't believe an adjuster is THAT stupid... fine, now my blood pressure is up...  _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. | Its Nationwide. What really irked me is we have been through them forever and even had times when we saved them money. For example I there has been a couple times we turned down the rental service even though we had it on our insurance since we had two other vehicles to drive. It was more for my own convience because I did not want the hassle of getting an returning a rental. At least I know for future reasons that the first person I spoke to was right to get it towed. I will remember this. |
