Can An Insurance Company Collect A Payment?

Dear Expert, my sister had a 2002 GMC Envoy that was insured thru a well know insurance company. The bank that had the loan on the GMC repoed the truck cause my sister had to go on a personal leave due to health problems and could not afford to pay for the truck. The truck was repoed in Febrary of 2009 and the insurance payment was to be paid in March of 2009. My sister called them in March after they sent her a bill for a payment of 61.50 to keep her insurance in force. She told them at that time that her truck had been repoed by the bank and that she no longer had that truck. They say that she still owes them the 61.50 for the insurance policy. Since when do we have to keep paying for insurance that we no longer need or for a vehicle that we no longer have?

Hello Kchristlieb, welcome to the community :)

Does your sister have any desire to receive the car back once she recover from her ongoing financial crunch?

Is there any chance for her to get the vehicle back from the financier soon?

Hi kchristlieb

Just as Jeremy has pointed out, I would also like to ask, does your sister want back her truck? If so then she may do so by paying the loan amount she is behind and get the truck back. Maybe, since she has defaulted on her loan, she will have to pay a fine.

Then she can keep the insurance she had on her truck and continue paying the premiums.

Hi kchristlieb,

The truck was repoed in Febrary of 2009 and the insurance payment was to be paid in March of 2009.

I guess the carrier was not informed of the repossession till March'09 and that's probably the reason why they billed her for the coverage till March.

Did your sister send any written intimation to the insurance co. when the truck got repoed in feb '09?

Steven
