can you stack UM coverage

can you stack UM coverage in NY? I have a client who was injured in NY two policies apply each has $25K in UM coverage. Can I stack them? Can you give me a cite to the statute or rule that allows stacking?

I found several web sites that did not list NY as allowing stacking. Take that with a grain of salt.

The state of New York doesn’t allow the insured to stack UM coverage, rather, the UM coverage can be extended to a certain limit if the worth of the bodily injury damage exceeds the policy limit. You must get it clarified by the agent. However, one can purchase higher limit on the policy by paying additional premium.

Colorado, Florida and Pennsylvania are the few states which allow stacking of uninsured motorist coverage

Juanita is right.

There are several insurance companies who will readily offer higher limits on your UM coverage and some also provide coverage for accidents that occur out of your state. Your insurance agent will be able to give you better details. Hope I could help :)
