Hi all,

I am new to this forum, and thought i would vent my frustration with tesco insurance.

My wife has been insured with them for the past 2 or 3 years! About 3 weeks ago some sod broke into our house and took both cars.
We sent all the documentation to Tesco with reference to the claim and they noted that i have 6 points on my license (named driver) and we had not told them. They then told us that over the period of 3 years (that we have been insured with them) we now owe them around £2700!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand that we are in the wrong and that we had not told them, but this was not intentional i feel that this is a very grey area that they skate over when getting a quote over the phone. I.E did you know that your points for speeding are convictions not endorsements!

Also as i am a named driver not even the main policy holder i find it very hard to believe that the insurance would have cost this amount!

I got a quote today, on line with all the convictions and it was about £100 different! £2770 my arse!

We have instructed a Solicitor on this and i would love to know other peoples opinion on what to do! and if anyone has had the same problem?

Sounds to me like if you do not pay the difference, that by rights they are due...they will likely VOID the policy which means that they will not consider your claim.....no policy means no coverage, equals no claim payment...better think it over...what they are telling you is it was material mis-rep, either pay the premium for your driving record, or void the policy...(that's how I see it anyway)

I'm sorry I have no idea of the exchange rate, how much is that in dollars and cents and how much was your premium prior to this notice.

I've a small doubt over this, hasn't had the insurer run the policy holders driving record at the time of issuing the coverage? If so, then how come he has missed this information that the driver has six points on his license?

I don't disagree that the policy holder is legally responsible to pay for the differences, otherwise may get his policy void, but isn't there any negligence on the insurer's part?

£2700 in $ is around $5400!!!!!
We are now waiting on the insurence company in question (Tesco UK) to send us info on the insurance body so we can continue our complaint further. In the meantime they have written off the car and are not issuing any payment until we have paid them. We now have two lawyers working on it, have informed the financial times and Watchdog of issues and are waiting for a response from them. I AM NOT GOING TO BACK DOWN!!! I DONT MIND GOING DOWN FIGHTING!

Wow Talk about confusion. this is from another country right? Maybe they added up all the differences over theyears of his having insurance and not notifying the company of any driver changes. Three years at a $100 jump would be up there to 3600 so it had to be more than that.

They don't run your motor vehicle report that shows tickets? We do at the time of application then randomly at renewal. Maybe they didn't/don't run it? I don't know how UK companies work but that just sounds strange.

Of course, someone with Tesco could have blown it and they are just trying to cover (and save) their ass.

Solicitor - excellent idea. And yes, let us know.
