Citations issued for moving violations (not parking tickets, safety violations, etc) will some times increase rates. There are other factors involved that may cancel out any increase.

It also depends on how often your insurance company checks your driving record. For example, if you are on a 6 month policy and get a ticket 2 months into it, they may not review your rate until you are up for renewal. Don't be so sure that your rates won't increase, maybe they just haven't yet.

There are other things you can do to avoid the increase, such as taking a point reduction or defensive driving class. A lot of it also depends on your existing relationship with the insurance company, including your past history with them.

Good Luck!

Then you are lucky :)

How long before were those issued? It might have happened that the insurance company hadn't pulled your driving record in all these time.

I guess you haven't switched an insurer too during this period, right?

It seems my insurance never checks the record... I know many companies which doesnot so as to reduce thier expense.. I got a lower rate although I had 2 tickets

Checking a driver's record in most states is actually free and can be done online. If I were an insurance company, I would absolutely check driver's license history and use this in the calculation of premiums. If somebody is a habitual speeder, they are at a far higher risk of being involved in an accident.

There have been arguments that good drivers speed, and I'll reply with this. I work EMS and I am allowed to drive the ambulance with the lights and sirens on as fast as I deem necessary. (with due regard...incredibly vague) I may be confident enough in my abilities to drive fast, but I don't trust what other people do. If you are going faster, it takes longer to react to stupidity!

You're absolutely right...In Texas this is what it costs (still a bargain in my opinion)

Type 1 (Status Record): name, date of birth (DOB), license status, and latest address. $4.50
Type 2 (3-year Driving History): name, DOB, license status, list of accidents and violations in record within past 3-year period. $6.50
Type 3 (Complete Driving History): name, DOB, license status, list of all accidents and violations in record. $7.50
Type 2A (Certified 3-year Driving History): certified version of Type 2. This record is not acceptable for Defensive Driving Course (DDC). $12.00
Type 3A (Certified Complete Driving History): certified version of Type 3. This record is acceptable for Defensive Driving Course (DDC). $12.00
Type AOR (Abstract Driver Record): Certified abstract of complete driving record of a license holder. $22.00

You are off course a lucky guy. I wish even my insurance rates could stay the same but I had to pay through my nose. If you get to know how this got managed, pls. do share on this forum. All of us Americans are spending a big chunk of our earnings on auto insurance

Infact my rates went down... Also incase of a ticket, you can extend your claim date by 6 mons and again 6 mons.. This gives you some time lag between tickets and also a chance for your previous records to be deleted.

helps to maintain better rates with your insurance
