I simply meant that your carrier would introduce you to the auto glass company within their network and not to any professional who's employed with them. But it would be up to you whether you'd choose to get the repairs done by this company. Windshield repair is quite an easy process. I guess all carriers would give more importance to your 'safety' than anything else.

Yes, you may pick an auto glass co. of your choice, but you'd always need to inform your carrier about the repairer. If you're gonna choose an auto glass co which they haven't recommended then you might just need to pay for your repairs out-of-pocket. But yeah, you're gonna get reimbursed for most or all of your expenses.

Before I was rear-ended, there was no crack in my windshield. Afterward, there was, down at the bottom where the glass lays on the frame(?) with no exterior chip. Within a day, the rubber gasket at the top of the same side of the windshield started to separate. The estimator marked the windshield as "prior damage", and everybody treated me like in the same cavalier fashion as "funny how often that happens".
We had the glass replaced under our comprehensive coverage while the body shop was repairing the bumper, fenders etc. Then the body shop told us the unibody needed to be straightened, had the estimator back out to get the expanded repairs approved. Does this make it less likely that I was imagining things? (I wash my windshield every time I fill my car and thus am familiar with the condition of my glass.)
