Two Teams or Three?

by AutoBody by Jake » Tue Jan 22, 2008 03:14 am

After joining a few places to spend some time with a topic near and dear to my heart, Auto Insurance and the Consumer, I've found a very volatile group of people.

Not sure if I can mention the other forums by name, and I can answer that privately if anyone is interested in that, but they seem to be 95% Auto Body shops. Meaning either techs, managers or owners. For someone currently employed by the "enemy" it's akin to walking into a mama bear's den after she just gave birth. Not a pretty sight. :)

That being said, I am enjoying some of the debates and trying to see just what these guys have to teach a dumb ignorant insurance adjuster. :)

My question here, being new to this place, is what is the makeup of AMPMInsure? I assume mostly insurance minded folks?

Do we have a lot of Body Shop people?

Lori, do you belong to any forums where the makeup is almost entirely Body Shops?

Do we have Team Insurance, Team Body Shop and Team Consumer here? Is there really a fight between us all?

Going about my daily business, I try so hard to be fair to all three, am I doing a disservice somewhere to one team or another?

Just kind of curious as to what ya'll think.

I think that we have all three here actually, I have seen all sides represented here. I don't think it hurts to express your opinion as long as you do it in a respectful manner and don't intentionally insult anyone. I have read your posts and you don't seem to get out of line at all.

You just have to watch out for those bears, LOL, that is why we have bear season, LOL. No just kidding, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, just don't take it personally. It is always good to have discussion and disagreements always bring good discussion. Like I said, key is to respect one another. I don't think you have crossed any lines concerning that. I think it is good to have you here.

Hi Jake and so glad you have joined us!

I've found a very volatile group of people.

Do you mean here or the other forum...by the way pm me that site if you don't mind...

Normally there isn't too much hot debate on this forum...I know you might find that hard to believe with the ''drp'' tread we have going at this time... but that is the exception here...

I'm not sure of any ratio, we have several agents, a few adjusters and body shop folks, and lots of consumers...with wide ranging experience...all coming together to help others and learn ourselves...

My motivation in joining was to help at least in some small way the average joe, that is dealing with insurance (claims in particular) as we both know can be like walking in mire!

That being said, I am enjoying some of the debates and trying to see just what these guys have to teach a dumb ignorant insurance adjuster.

I think we can learn 'something' from everyone, and try to learn something new every day....

As long as debate is non-personal and respectful, I think it is also useful...as you know I get a little 'out of sorts' when ANYONE or an INDUSTRY is sterotyped as ''all bad'' basically, and have a REAL problem with the slightest hint that I am dishonest, or my character challenged, that is something very important to me. I don't like that and frankly find it ignorant.

 That's funny, but I know what you mean...I've been in this field for 21 years, and seems that a week doesn't go by that I don't have to defend myself...just based on my profession alone (you know all adjusters are crooks type thing :x ).....gets tiring at times!

I hope you enjoy this forum and continue to post, your posts are very well written and much enjoyed....

What is your background Jake if you'd care to share.

I meant the other forum. This group of people here is rather nice! :)

I agree and that's what I was hoping when I joined the forums I did. To learn some different perspectives and have intelligent discussions about this industry. I was also hoping that I might be able to help out a few people along the way with the knowledge I've gained over the years.

What is your background Jake if you'd care to share.

My experience goes back to working on the General Motors assembly line years ago. Then in no particular order, worked in various shops, independent appraisal companies, and insurance companies. Even worked for a large shipping company appraising damage on brand new cars coming in from overseas.

I am also ASE and I-Car Certified.

Last but not least I am a consumer who believes everyone should get a square deal.

I'm with ya there...Actually in life in general...

I too have worked 'both sides of the fence' which I think gives us a better perspective on this job....If I were the boss of the world, all adjusters would have to work in the shops at least six months to gain better knowledge, and certainly more practial knowledge.

I was an adjuster for ten years with a company that then decided to close their branch office in my town, with a , 'here's your job lori, it's seventy miles one way, but hey you have a job'.....lori didn't like that ! so i went to work in a body shop ulitmately becoming the facility manager then went back to claims adjuster again about eight years ago...so 18 as adjuster and four in the shop (hey it's 22 years now! crap i'm getting old!)...
