I'm a financial planner and CPA and I wanted to share with you one of the most common mistakes I see related to taxes and insurance.

If you are a business owner make sure that your health insurance and long term care premiums are deducted on page 1 of your tax return and not put with your medical expenses on Schedule A of your itemized deduction section.

Schedule A Medical expenses are subject to an income floor. Meaning that they must pass a certain level before any of these expenses can be deducted.

Additionally itemized deductions can be phased out and you will not even get credit for a portion of the expenses if you make to much money.

The IRS gives business owners a break by allowing them to take the full deduction (subject to no limits) on page 1 of the return. The IRS is trying to say hey we know you are paying alot for your health insurance because you are self-employed so here is your break.

My tax section at
life-and-car-insurance.com is currently under construction but will be coming soon.

Please post any additional questions on any tax topic or email me at info@life-and-car-insurance.com and I will be happy to answer your questions to the best of my ability. Good luck with your tax planning and I enjoyed the previous posts.

True...considering the rate is one important thing that we should not forget while choosing a home insurance. This would depend on a number of things - whether the home is located in a flood prone zone or earthquake prone area. Apart from that the recent hurricanes have shown us enough of what might happen to our social lives in case we are not into planning things pro-actively. There are many states where these natural-disturbances have made way to maintain such coverage as 'mandated'. Such insurances would definitely affect our overall insurance budget with Home insurance being 'no exception'.

Well when you are signing up with a home owners policy it is always fixed.I don't think that there is any variable cost as such coming up with it.

Hi,

Should I settle for a fixed or a variable rate? When it comes to mortgage I am a little apprehensive.

Opt for low-cost clinics>>>Well, that might just be an option for the minor & more general symptoms.
If you sense it is something uncanny,it is better that you take a call before it is too late! If the little thing is precious to your life (it might just be a part of your family)then just don't care about costs. Costs are there to rise for grave concerns. Choosing lighter health-options might just lessen your burden temporarily...but keep on mounting terminally, am I right!

So just think of that $1825. What are the things that we had missed worth that amount in our lives?

I believe there are plenty of such invaluable moments.. that I could have enjoyed with my near-n-dear ones at a cool sea-side holiday resort, a gala evening with our friends at a pub, a quiet candle-lit-dinner with my girlfriend, a small get-together with my relatives back-home..& probably many more..

Did we actually achieve anything great at the cost of these timeless memories!

I hope, its high time we count..

Another Option>> A good way to restrict the insurance costs is through group insurance programs. A few days back I got a call from a tele-sales rep. regarding a health advantage offer. For a seemingly beneficial package I was supposed to pay a premium worth $306.00. But for the same pack of benefits if I add a floater naming my wife as a beneficiary, then we would need to pay a quarterly premium worth $450.00. So, we can easily see how it would have been costlier, had we opted for individual policies instead of our present offer.

I have heard that the wedding rings security is restricted to a limit. It does not cover a ring-stone above a listed worth. I also heard that in case it covers an expensive ring the actual coverage would be restricted to a pre-assured amount. The deductibles for such cases may also be a bit different it seems.
