I have argued often times why buying a travel insurance policy is important. But still, I end up falling into the same topic over and over again.

Today I won’t be just talking about any normal travel insurance policy.

Any normal travel insurance policy coverage is limited in the sense that it only covers expenses or reimburses you if any mishap or accident is not caused due to activities that require a special talent, practice or attention.
Examples of such activities are scuba diving, bungee jumping, mountaineering, etc.

Now, if you fall down from a cliff and break your leg while mountaineering, then your normal travel insurance policy won’t reimburse for the medical costs and other expenses associated with the accident.

This is the main reason why you should go for an adventure/extreme sports travel insurance.

In this post, we will be discussing the various policy coverage for any general adventure/extreme sports travel insurance available in the United States.

The general adventure/extreme sports travel insurance policy coverage:

  • If an injury is suffered by the insured while participating in adventure sports (those that are covered in the policy), then the policyholder will be reimbursed up to:
$50,000 – if the insured is of age up to and through 49 years,
$30,000 – if the insured is of age 50 years up to and through 59 years,
$15,000 – if the insured is of age 60 years up to and through 64 years.
  • Any medical expense (that qualifies as necessary, customary, and prescribed by physician for special treatment) will be reimbursed!
Also, only those medical expenses will be reimbursed where the injury is suffered within 365 days of disablement of the insured for US citizens, and 180 days for non-US citizens.
  • Emergency dental treatment.
  • Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation costs will be covered if the expenses are included in the policy coverage, and/or a travel insurance policy is used as the base policy. Usually, it is advised to first buy a travel insurance and then add on an adventure sports policy on top of it.
  • Loss of personal equipment and baggage while performing an extreme activity that is covered by the policy and meets all the requirements as described by the insurance company.
  • Usually, people buy adventure/extreme sports to cope up with the huge medical expenses incurred while traveling abroad, in a distant land, or where medical evacuation charges can skyrocket up.

Here, I will be listing the names of activities that fall under different categories as marked by the insurance companies while selling out their policies.

The categories are usually divided as sports, Extreme sports, and activities marked as excluded.

All names of activities are indexed in alphabetical order, and their classification into different categories may vary company to company.
