I’m in Texas and my employer told us that he does not carry workers compensation coverage. Is that legal?

Yes, the state of Texas does not require an employer to carry worker’s comp. However, in choosing not to, your employer has given up all rights to asserting a defense in court in the event you are hurt.

Yes, in the event an employee gets hurt, they'll have to bear it out of their own pocket. But, in the end it's always better to have it than not. Also, it helps if you should stay updated on the state insurance norms.
