Actually, insurance does none of this. It does not "safeguard" your assets -- a big dog or a loaded gun in your hand will do this better. Insurance also does not "lessen" any financial risk, it merely transfers some of that risk to the insurance company.

Is it better to be insured than not? In most cases, yes. That's a different discussion..
