Churches usually inherit valuables, land, buildings, icons and other property that is very valuable and expensive. Not just this, the churches can also be held to cannon law and certain doctrines. If these doctrines are not followed the churches may face liability charges. To protect from all these, there is church insurance.

Church insurance coverage

Church insurance property coverage - With this policy you can protect the church building, contents of the church, signs, property that is outside in the open as well as fences. Standard items will be covered along with some non standard items like:
  • Personal property of the pastor
  • Equipments like computers, boilers and electrical equipments
  • Church kitchens and cooking equipments
  • Church property on and off-premises
  • Ordinance
  • Any indirect loss

Special Church insurance property coverage- Special coverage includes:
  • Scriptures
  • Valuable books
  • Artifacts (religious)Stained glass

Church liability coverage - This policy covers any legal liability for the activities on the church owned premises. This policy also accounts for personal injury liability like libel and slander. If it is the responsibility of the church authority to compensate the cost medical treatment regardless of liability, this policy will provide coverage. All members, employees of the church, all officials, staff and volunteers are covered.

Church insurance also provides coverage for:
  • Pastor liability
  • Medical bills
  • Sexual misconduct
  • Non-owned as well as hired autos
  • Employee compensations
  • Molestation and abuse
  • "Not for profit" and "for profit" coverage
However, the coverage for church insurance may vary from one state to another depending on the laws in that state.

Getting business insurance for a church

Although business insurance for a church has almost the same analyzing techniques as getting business insurance for a business, churches do differ in some respects. These differences are what help determine what kind of business insurance you may get for the church. When documenting the property of the church make sure to include everything like the halls, meeting rooms, place where the congregation meets and the like.

After you have accumulated the documents, contact a skilled insurance agent who has good idea about church insurance. Place your application with an established church insurer.

Church insurance may not just differ from one state to another but also according to their size. Larger churches may need coverage different from smaller churches. So based on what kind of church you are looking forward to insure, ask your agent to get you a policy that best covers your church.

How do we get a quote on coverage for our Church?

We are looking for life insurance, a policy that will cover members that contribute to the church and are active.
A coverage that the church finance department will pay each month or however the terms are set.
We already have coverage for the church building and items inside/outside.

This is not possible. Your church does not have an insurable interest in the lives of its donors/contributors unless there is a contractual agreement between the donor and the church to provide a specific amount of money for a specific endeavor which could be jeopardized by the death of that person.

An example would be a donor who agrees to cover the cost of building a new sanctuary in excess of a certain amount of church funds.

But simply buying life insurance to provide the church with income if a member dies . . . not possible. You need to replace those persons with new members who contribute to the church.

WWJD?
He would pray to his Father in heaven, not pay insurance premiums.

Folks . . . please understand, this is NOT an insurance company or agency website. No insurance is sold here. You are always encouraged to seek the services of a local agent or broker to assist you with your insurance needs.

There are several insurance companies that specialize in liability and property insurance for churches. They have agents all around the country waiting to help you. Two of the largest are: Blackwell Church Insurance and Church Mutual Insurance Company.
