Hi Huxlly,

Yes of course they can be covered. However, there are state rules that apply when it comes to which policy pays first if there is a claim. This is called Coordination of Benefits (CoB) and is applicable if both the policies are group policies. This entire thing about 2 policies covering a family can be a little complicated. But in general as far as I know the states follow the guidelines of National Association of Insurance Commissioners. You may check them out.

Hi Ronnie, that sounds more like we should find a carrier in addition to our existing one, on the basis of benefits that are being offered by the latter and are not covered under the existing one. Would it be economic to pay twice for our required benefits? Won't it be cheaper if we could find a single provider that offers all for a little bit more?
