It's really annoying having to correct your misinformation. "Vision insurance" covers none of these things. At best, laser eye surgery can be obtained at a discount through one's vision plan, but the plan will not cover any of the cost. It is considered "elective cosmetic surgery" which is a routine exclusion.

"Vision insurance" is also not "health insurance" in the sense that it covers medical eye conditions such as cataracts or glaucoma. Your optometrist may detect those things, but you will need to see an ophthalmologist for the necessary care, which will only be covered under a medical insurance policy, HMO, or PPO/EPO/POS plan.

As for "tiny" premium amounts . . . with tiny premiums come equivalent coverage.

Definitely! There's no guarantee that all that suits your budget will fit your needs. In addition, to get any of your medical eye conditions covered under it, you must obtain a certificate that's duly signed by your ophthalmologist.
