Is written cancellation letter mandatory?

Posted: Fri Feb 25, 2011 11:52 pm   Post subject: Is written cancellation letter mandatory?   I was purchasing a private health insurance coverage from Anthem while I was unemployed. Now I got a new job and I can purchase a health insurance coverage from my new employer, I called Anthem to cancel my coverage. But they told me that without my written cancellation letter along with new coverage's company name and policy number, they won't cancel my exisiting coverage from Anthem.
