My wife got backed into in a restaraunt parking lot by a 17 year old driver. Our vehicle was stuck on both doors on the driver side. Fault should be 90 to 100% the other driver. I had insurance on multiple vehicles but never added this one to my policy prior to th accident. (no excuses, I just gappd it, I'd had the car for about 5-6 weeks before) My wife assumed it was on our policy and told the officer it was insured through our carrier. She wasn't asked to provide a proof of insurance for the vehicle. My insurance agent is aware o the situation and is working on the claim for me. We added to to the policy right away. Although my insurance co will not provide any liability towards the accident, my agent says the damgage to my vehicle will be taken care of by the other driver's carrier. Will my wife receive a citation in the mail after the fact for the car not having insurance. No citation was written at the scene (although the officer never asked for the actual policy number to check) We live in the state of Minnesota by the way.

Probably not. The police dept will probably never know. This is why the officer _should_ have issued a citation to your wife at the time of the accident... as you need to have proof of insurance _at the time_ of the accident.

It's an honest mistake that spouses may not know that their vehicles aren't covered.But,...(yes, being a bit 'harsh' here..) BOTH of you should have known if the certain vehicle had insurance coverage. I'm just saying this, because (recently) there was a car accdent in my local area (being a small area where I live, everything is in our small paper..). The driver said she had no idea the vehicle she was driving was NOT insured. Too make a long story short, she DID know, however, drove the car anyway. Major fines, fees, etc!!!!!!! yes,I, too, am surprised th policeman didn't ask you for proof of insurance.
