I am a legal permanent resident (green card holder). I am 73 years old and live in Houston.
I am ineligible to Medicare and Medicaid.
I am willing to pay premiums but found out that in Texas, insurance companies do not provide health insurance for anybody over the age of 64.
How can I get health insurance coverage? What are my options?

How long have you been staying in Texas or for that matter the US? Do you have any family member currently employed and is covered by his organization's group health plan?

I have been in Texas for the past 2 years.
I am staying with my niece who is employed but I don't think her insurance will cover me.

While you may not qualify for Medicaid, anyone who is a legal resident of the US and is age 65 or older may enroll in Medicare. You would have to pay both the Part A and the Part B premiums, because you don't have the 40 credits required for entitlement to "premium-free Part A" coverage. Everyone on Medicare pays the Part B premium. The cost for both Part A and Part B is a minimum of about $500 per month in 2012.

AARP cannot provide any more assistance beyond that which was posted above. AARP is a political action group that sponsors abortions among other things.
