Employer Health Ins v Medicare

I am currently employed with company health insurance for hubby and myself. I am of Medicare age so I enrolled in Part B and Part D effective 12/1/12 so I am now covered. Can my company force me to keep their health insurance even though I am now enrolled and covered by other healthcare?

NO. Your eligibility for Medicare could actually be a reason you can be terminated from the employer's health plan. In most cases, you have the option to continue coverage under your employer's plan or Medicare, or both. If your employer has more than 50 employees, Medicare will be secondary to your employer's plan. If you work for a company with 50 employees or less, you have the option to make Medicare primary or secondary (it is always secondary to workers' compensation). Making Medicare secondary in a small business group plan usually raises the premium for that plan.

Go to your employer's HR dept and terminate your enrollment, if that's your choice.
