When will it be illegal to not have health insurance and how the authorities would enforce? Thanks!

It will not be "illegal" anytime soon -- in other words, you won't go to jail because of it. But on January 1, 2014, failure to enroll in a qualified health plan will expose a person to a minimum $95 per month IRS penalty for up to 9 months per year. The IRS will enforce the penalty through withholding/reduction of tax refunds.

well! That is called Obamacare tax penalty and it applies for those who do not sign up for insurance or do not keep their coverage plans. This may be of help because I personally have not come across an actual case, so check it out obamacarequotes (dot) com/what-is-the-obamacare-penalty-for-2018/
