Health insurance in Alabama

My son lives in Alabama and works in a private research institute. Just previous week he was told that the institute forgot to take out the monthly premiums from his paychecks for health insurance. They now want him to repay all the money (around $2k) to them. I believe that he should not pay as it was not his fault. He just used the insurance once for a small purpose. What do you say? Is he bound to give away the sum? Thanks!!

Let's get this right. If you had a mortgage payment due every month and it was supposed to be taken automtically from your bank account every month, but after a year, it is determined that none of the payments were taken from the account, when the lender asks you to make good on all the past due payments, you don't believe you have an obligation to pay the past due amount?

That's what you're saying about your son's health insurance premiums. He should have said something to his employer;s HR person the very first month a premium was due and not taken. Neglect on his part is the reason for the large payment request, whether he used the insurance one time or one thousand times.

Is he bound to give away the sum?

He's not "giving away" anything. He's pocketed money that doesn't belong to him.

HE OWES THE MONEY!
