My husband is going to retire soon. I’m not worried for him as he’ll be on Medicare. However, I am a bit concerned as I don’t qualify. My health is perfect and I don’t smoke. I’m 49 and was confused about getting a good plan. Is there any good individual plan to pick up? I need just for yearly check-ups. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

All individual plans are "good" -- you need to decide which one most closely meets your needs and objectives.

This is probably short-sighted thinking. Your health may be "perfect" and it's good that you don't smoke, but you never know when you're going to have your appendix or gall bladder explode, or break an ankle or an arm, or suffer a laceration, or lose control of your car and end up in a hospital bed.

If you fail to take the cost of those contingencies into account, you may save money on premiums but expose yourself to large out-of-pocket expenses (up to $6,350 or more in 2014).

Meet with an experienced local independent agent and discuss your situation with him/her.

Only if he is age 65 or older. But what you don't know about Medicare might make you sick.

Just wanted to share a resource I recently found that might help. (Link deleted per TOU) is a provides tons of information regarding senior insurance. They give free consultations and quotes regarding retirement funding, long-term care funding, life insurance, medicare supplements, dental/vision, etc. I'm sure they'd have information on these tests as well. I'm sure they'll be able to answer your questions and help you out.
