Time limits on solo accident

After losing control of my vehicle (hydroplaning) during a rain storm I went into the ditch causing damage to my vehicle. I did not contact the police department. Can I still make a claim? If so how long do I have to make a claim.

BTW, I have had full coverage with the same insurance company since buying the vehicle brand new in 2003 and have no claims in the past.

It depends...did you already have the car fixed or no? If you have not had the car fixed yes you can still most likely put a claim in. The sooner the better though. I am not 100% sure on the time limit. It could be a week or 30 days. But if it was recently I would call it in.

Why did you not call it in to the insurance company right away? Just curious?

some insurance agency may require photo of the accident
cause they may think you only did it on purpose

if you have accident report it immediately

base on my Idea

The terms of your policy and your states statute of limitations would be the two limiting factors.

A policy usually states that you need to report all claims within a timely manner. I've never heard of a carrier inforcing this and it would be next to impossible to deny a claim for this reason. Of course, the late report will raise suspicions, mainly about another vehicle being involved.

I can see no reason why not to report the claim as soon as possible.
