hi folks

yesterday went to visit my friend in boston and parked my car in his apartments. parallel parking.

today i noticed that the front vehicle guy had collision with mine.

i guess he backed up fast; then hit me and then hit again while going out at the right corner. i am attaching photos.

now i drove to my place from boston. should i report this to cops there? i have collision + liability coverage.

will insurance co. pay me full if i report it to boston cops now?

will it increase my policy?

Yes, you should report it to the police, this is a hit-and-run after all, and the damage isn't exactly obscure. He caused it trying to get out onto the road, which means either he sucks at driving, or you were parked far too close to his car.

It only happened yesterday, the police might be able to investigate if you were parked too close to him or not. But even if you were, he probably drove off without reporting it, meaning he could get in some legal trouble.

Thats pretty much what I know on hit and run laws.

Whenever they increase your policy or not depends entirely on the company, some of them will not increase it if the accident was not your fault, I think AllState does this. But insurance is hardly my expertise, but there are a lot of experts here that can answer that for sure.

Think you could tell us about how many feet there was between your car and his when you parked it? That would really help.

I don't see any reason why you should not be compensated if you are not the party at fault. You had the accident yesterday only, so I don't think its too late either!

If you were the party at fault then may be your insurance premium would go up! But yeah, there are some carriers who'd play with premiums irrespective of whether their insured was at-fault or whether it was the other party at-fault.

So you already have it up there - all the wealth in the world! :)

So why so much of worrying!
I've heard that collision pays irrespective of whether you are at fault or not!
Doesn't that sound nice :)

Sorry OP I looked at the photo's last night and got hung up on pesky 'real job' stuff...

Gotta tell you if I worked this claim I'd be doing some severe investigating...do you have name/plate anything on other guy? From the pics (and can't tell everything from pics) looks like you slid into something going at a pretty good clip......they (your company) is going to wonder why on earth if you knew this vehicle hit you that you didn't call the cops at that very moment so they could contact this owner......but instead you left? Knowing a particular vehicle hit you? Are there cameras in this lot? I'm not saying you arent' telling the full truth i'm just getting you ready for what you might expect....think it over and let us know...
