Minors and Settlements

I just found out something that just thrills me to the bone. I did not know that it is a mandate that a minors accident settlement go into the bank and can not be accessed until they turn 18 or 21, what ever the judge decides. I think this would stop a lot of adults spending money that is not theirs that rightfully goes to their kids. I don't know when this law took effect, but I fully support it.

Just see, junior at 3 getting hurt and daddy who was not even there getting a new pick up truck, see so much of this type of garbage, grown people leeching from their kids, at least this will stop it.

happy me, happy me! :D

It is a good thing, some parents will just steal from their kids because they think that they're entitled to it. That's the kind of behavior that caused me to sever ties with over half my family.

Although, I think it would be a better idea to put it in a bank account that only the child can access, without any parental knowledge, question, or consent, no exceptions. And is also legally protected from having anything withdrawn by the parent or guardian.

I've heard some stories of children getting compensation and the parents just squandering it and it sickens me to the bone. I once heard one where a teenager got raped, she got compensation and her despicable mother spent it all on herself.

It's been around for a good while.

I hate to pop your bubble, but this isn't ALWAYS the case...in large settlement that REQUIRE court approval or a friendly suit yes...but not the small ones (in my state anyway)....Mom and Dad can just spend spend spend little juniors money!

Which is why every time someone tells me to behave like an adult, I lie, cheat, steal, commit fraud, declare war and sue like there's no tomorrow cause there isn't, cause I just sent an ultimatum to every nuclear power on the globe.

I'm kidding, you'd think that any reasonable judge would intervene, whenever it's $5 or $500. Keep in mind that stealing from your kids will just have some dire consequences in the future, cause kids know everything you don't want the taxman to know.

I think the money should be put away for the kid, after all it was the child that got hurt and suffered. I can imagine a parent praying for that 18th or 21st birthday to squander the money even after waiting that long.

How terrible that a child would suffer a rape and the parent spend the money like that, no money amount could take that kind of pain away, but it may help the child have a better life later. I just think this stinks
