Good news, finally. The insurance company has decided to go ahead and push the claims through with the info they have. They will be overnighting the checks to NMAC (the leinholder on the 2 cars) on Monday. So it looks like this nightmare is almost over. Luckily we got GAP insurance on the cars as well, so once NMAC gets the checks we can get GAP to pay the rest. Well, since we are a little behind on the payments I think we'll still have to pay a little at the end of all this, but we seem to be over the biggest hurdle now.

Oh ncornutt, honey I'm so glad that this part is over, and so terribly sorry for all you have had to endure, I do hope that you understand that your carrier was doing all they could...some carriers (unfortunately) would've thrown up their hands and told you, get the title copy then we'll pay you...so at least you had an adjuster who dug till they found a way that their company would allow them to pay it...

When was this flood? What part of the country?

I sincerely hope the worst is over for you and your family now, and you can rebuild your lives...Thank the Lord you had the forsight to have a GAP policy....

Best regards to all of you.

Lori,

The flood was on Jan. 5 in Fernley, NV, which is near Reno. We had a lot of rain the day before and around 4 a.m. the levee broke (it was just made of dirt). We didn't even know until 7 a.m. when my sister called and by then the water was almost up to the house and the water was already up to our cars bumbers. We had to wait until around 10:30 before we were taken out by boat and helicopter and by then the water was 3-4 feet deep inside the house, and freezing cold. We had our kids up on the kitchen counters.

Anyways, the whole neighborhood is brand new, the houses were built about 4 yrs ago. As it turns out that same levee broke about 10 yrs ago and also about 10 yrs before that. When people bought the houses in that area they were told they didn't need flood insurance, so out of over 300 houses that were affected, only 2 people actually had flood insurance.

I'm surprised that flood insurance was not required in that area..where I live (on the missouri river) there are areas here they consider 'flood plains' no ifs, ands, or buts, if you are in one of these areas you HAVE to carry flood insurance....hopefully you all will be back on your feet soon...
