How long does it take to evaluate claim?

by gb298888 » Thu Feb 28, 2008 12:34 am

I have been posting about my claim. They review my claim but need one more document. Now they have it, ppl said it could take them months. I dont see that as possible. Also when do they accept liability? Will they offer after that?

That sounds crazy that it should take a month, I would think two weeks at the most. Did they say why they will take that long to review it? I would be calling and asking to talk to somebodies boss if I were you.

Yes, its worth asking why so much time is needed!
I've never heard of such a thing before, excepting a few odd cases where in the adjusters are skeptical & feel a claim needs an investigation before it is settled. I guess your case doesn't fall under that category! MoulinRougestar

Well, depending upon the nature of the claim, the insurer may need more time to settle it, but there certainly exists a time-frame within which the insurer is bound to make a fair settlement to the claimant. Find out the time period required in your state form the state insurance dept. If your insurer isn't obliging the time limit, you may need to seek help under the 'fair claim practices laws'. Keep us informed about the developments in your case.

Hi,

I'd agree that some cases are different in nature but mostly have come across such cases in connection with auto insurance. And then again such investigations are being conducted for an indefinite period of time & can't be foreseen to be concluded within a specified time-frame eg. 1 month.
waiting to hear more from your side,

I have known people that have waited weeks and weeks to settle a claim. Can you call and demand a date?

I think that if you are waiting on payment and it is a simple claim that anything past a few weeks or thirty days is way too long, just my opinion, I would be calling if it has been over that time frame. I have never had issues where I have had to wait that long, have not filed too many claims, but I know when I did it was just a matter of weeks, they got all the paperwork fairly quickly from the doctors office though. I think on my last claim it took like ten days.

If it is your own personal doc that isn't too bad. Now if it is specialist or any such that definetely takes longer. I just ran in to a nice situation myself. My Chiro doc moved to another office alot further away. He let us all know that are records were being forwarded to anothe trusted doc that he interviewed personally. Well called yesterday to get those records and no where to be found. The doc looked through every file individually. So now I have to try to reach the first doc and see if for some reason he may have taken them with him. I was hoping he wouldn't have. My medical insurance has been trying to get the billing from him since DEC. I even went up before he left and talked with him. results?..still waiting.
