Wrecked my car

I have a 2007 Nissan Versa that I wrecked yesterday. I ran into someone from behind, so it's my fault. I barely scratched the other vehicle, but my car looks very bad. I can't open my front doors unless I bend them, the bumper is off, and there's a lot more things under the hood that are messed up, including the hood. I have already made a claim with my insurance company, and the adjuster won't come until about 2 days. Should I get a mechanic to look at it after the adjuster to be sure that the adjuster didn't overlook anything? Also, my car was only $15,000 brand new, and I only owe $13,000 on it now. If the cost of repairs is half of that, is it even worth getting it repaired? Thank you!

I am guessing they will go ahead and fix it. The adjuster will give a fair value of the damage. Usually you will have to take it to one of your insuance companies certified garages and have it fixed there. This is who they usually remit the payment to if thay find it fixable. It is also the best way to go because if there is any more damage than listed they can take care of it themselves (without much or any help from you) with your insurance company. I've been in this situation before and the insurance company always did right by me. Good Luck.

hello need some help, and welcome...

no this would be a waste of time unless this is the person that will be repairing your vehicle whatever the adjuster cannot see at your home, once it is IN THE SHOP OF YOUR CHOICE...if they find any additional damage the shop will contact the adjuster who will work out the supplemental payment...

Also, my car was only $15,000 brand new, and I only owe $13,000 on it now. If the cost of repairs is half of that, is it even worth getting it repaired?

it will have to have more than 1/2 the value in damage to total, most states have thresholds, generally 70-80% of the vehicles ACV (actual cash value)...

Usually you will have to take it to one of your insuance companies certified garages and have it fixed there

no no fireyone, this isn't correct, this 'may' be one alternative, but the owner can go to whatever shop they wish, and the best choice may well be a preferred shop but each owner has to make that individual choice....no one ever HAS to go to any specific shop...however there are generally some perks to using a preferred shop (ie life time warranty on top of what the shop may warrant)...since you have a leinholder, the draft will either (more than likely) be paid to you and the shop or you and the leinholder...I think however that you just might total from your damage distcription sounds to me like you smashed her up pertty good...did you air bags deploy?

Thats nice to know about my choice of garage, at least for the next time around. When my adjuster came out he said there was a list a certified garages I could choose from. I must have taken him wrong or maybe just didn't inquire far enough. I would probaly still go with a certified one from my company..there garages always did good by me.

Or maybe the adjuster didn't take the time to explain it well either, they get in a hurry, and really from 'alot' of adjusters view points, once they get it to a preferred shop they don't (personally) have to deal with the repair very much...(makes their jobs easier) you will start seeing though with all the steering suits etc...that more companies are 'scripting' it to include, or make sure the owners understand that choice is theirs, but here are our (the companies) reasons we recommend these shops...etc.

OMG!! 'Need some help'...are u ok?? Did you hurt yourself?? WOW!! Well..to put my '2cents' in, I was in an accident, in November, of 2007. I have a Jeep Cherokee. The Blue Book value is $3200.00,..close to that, anyway. My damamges were $2100.00. My insurance paid for my car to get fixed...(had a $500.00 Deductable). I would think if your damges were LOWER than the Blue Book value, than your car should be fixed. Just a comment from 'personal experience'.

sdchargersfan, see your damages were only 65% of your vehicle's ACV thus not reaching 70% (lowests I've ever seen) the salvage value on your vehicle would only be about 500 (probably at the highest) so an economical total wouldn't apply....
