Lost coverage on parents policy when turned 25.

I turned 25 in January and was taken off my mom's health insurance policy through BCBS of Texas. I was appalled when I went for my next doctor visit and found out I had to pay $94.00 for the visit now and that my two prescriptions were now going to cost 189.00 a month. I am a divorced mother of 3. Where can I get insurance for myself. The kids are covered under Medicaid. I work part time at a convenience store (minimum wage) and get $200.00 a month child support. This doesn't leave enough for me to pay for my monthly doctor visit and the prescriptions. Plans I have checked into costs even more than that just for the premiums. Is there any low cost plans in Texas, or even Bastrop county?

Hello Mundine, please help me, I'm confused. :? I think you have started the following thread as well.

http://www.ampminsure.org/life/dependent-no-coverage.html

I'm confused since I can't understand how the two extreme situations are possible at the same time.

Well, what are the things that you'd like to be covered under your insurance policy? I guess a lot of it would tell us whether we should expect something expensive.

Tell ya' what I'd be willing to bet that if BCBS knew this you wouldn't have been covered at all...How on earth could they be covering you under mom's health plan? Surely you don't qualify as a dependent for Mom...

Back in my TPA days, there were some policies that would cover childern up to the age of 25 and had nothing to do with being in college. I never read anything in these policies about having kids either. These were self insured companies, and not BCBS however.

Give it time, everything is going to be nationalized soon and everyone will have FREE health insurance. Yeah!!!!!!! :x

My daughter wasn't covered under my insurance while she was married, only after she got divorced and moved back home with her 3 kids. Her and the kids were covered on my policy as long as I claimed them as dependents on my tax return.

My daughter is on medication for ADHD. That is the only medical problem she has.

If you read both posts you will realize that this woman has lead an interesting life.

She is a RETIRED woman of 25 who is working at a convenience store and supporting 3 kids. I guess she gets by with her pension. She also has an 81 year old husband.

Things that make you go hmmm.

I can see where the confusion comes from here. I am 58 and my husband is 81. My daughter posted her question using my account so that I could keep up with the responses and give her guidance on what was said here. I just retired in January of this year and my daughter turned 25 in January. She moved back home after her divorce and I put her back on my insurance.

Regardless of the situation, it would most likely still behoove somone to answer this question, yes?

I think she (or anyone with any kind of related problem) should check out weremember.org. It's like an insurance directory of sorts and offers other services for free, such as its beneficiary noticification program and free quotes for various insurance companies. It sure helped me out.
