If you put your premium savings in an account, until you reached the deductible difference then after that it would be all gravy _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. Ok...developments, if anyone is interested!
Adjuster estimated our water damage at $1982.85--we have a $1000 deductible. I'm calling our agent with some questions tomorrow or Thursday, but is this worth filing or will it raise our rates too much?
Another issue--I'm nervous because the carpet pad is still damp. The cleaners left and assure me with dehumidifiers and air movement the carpet/pad will be fine. I'm reading otherwise online. My Adjuster gave me three weeks to make a decision--if I wait to see if the carper/pad dries fine before I complete this claim, and it gets even moldier, can the estimate be updated or is it closed/off-limits?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated--you guys have been very helpful!! |

| Quote: | | can the estimate be updated or is it closed/off-limits? | certainly, the adjuster can just write a supplement for the pad, and whatever else that entails...I don't blame you I'd be a little cautious about that pad as well...hopefully they will get it all out...can you find out who the manufactor of the pad is? If so I would contact them (or maybe find them on line) and see what their opinion in re: drying out that pad, or what their recommendations are when they get this wet....thanks for the update, and please continue to do so...you'd be surprised, most people come here get their requested advise or questions answer and then we never find out what happend! it's so frustrating like throwing a book away after reading half of it! _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. most likely it is...i agree though he needs to keep an eye on the pad...OP I forgot to ask did you let the adjuster know that you were going to keep an eye on this and if it didn't clear up you'd be calling ? _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. | Yeah, I talked about the pad with her, and that's why we're giving it a couple weeks before we confirm whether or not we want to go through with the claim. I may have a carpet installer or another cleaner come out and give me their opinion...or maybe even a mold inspector. I just hope there aren't any problems potentially having the carpet added into the estimate, too. Although that may raise my payment over a certain amount that they'll raise my premium--not sure how that works. Talkin' to my agent tomorrow to find out how it'll affect our premium. |

Talkin' to my agent tomorrow to find out how it'll affect our premium. | most companys are 400-500 dollars so you are most likely already over that threshold (if you accept payment) _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. | Will they also figure in the mold remover? and the inspection to make sure that the mold is all gone? I mean in a sense it would be in their best intrest, because if the mold is still present it will become an issue again right? |

So I just talked to my agent, and here's the deal: since we've gone on two years with no claims, it won't raise our premium to file and get this $1980 minus our $1000 deductible, leaving us with a $980 check. However, if we file a 2nd claim before our renewal date in November, our premium will rise 80%. If we make it the next year without filing a claim, it will rise 70%. The claim will be reset after five years.
My questions:
Is this a typical arrangement?
Should we file the claim or not?
God forbid, but what if I file a 2nd claim this year and my premium increases by %80, and then for some reason I have to file a 3rd claim? Or would they just drop me at that point? |

| Quote: | | Should we file the claim or not? | well the claim has already been filed you just have to decide if you want them to pay on the claim...and that is something only you can decide, can you afford the 2k in damages yourself? have you found out for sure about the pad and mold yet?
