my truck was keyed two weeks ago so i called the police and got a report.

they told me to go and get and estimate so the can attach it to the report. so i went to the local body shop where the told me that allstate does there on estimates.

so i went home and reported the claim and the set me up with an appointment with the adjuster. The adjuster wrote an estimate and took pictures and did what he needed to do, he said the only thing yet to do is give a recorded statement over the phone. So i assumed that was it. Prior to this happening i was car shopping. i now that i found a car that i wanted i figured that since the truck i am driving is 11 years old that it would not be worth painting. So i trade it in for a new car.

So the next day i get a call and he asks fo the statement after thats done they tell me that allstate cant close the claim until they contact the police officer and take a second look at the truck.

About a week before this happened i informed allstate that i am switching insurance companies so i dont know if they think this is a fraudulent case.

Don't think so..especially when we have come across quite a few cases where that carrier-side wanted to get a 2nd look at it. It was convincing till the point the adjuster visited. But now it is more important to know the findings in the police-report. There might have been a description of circumstances under which your car got keyed which they feel has deviated from your verbal statement (the one that got recorded).
See, till now there is nothing to get irate till this process stretches or gets delayed. Please do get us updated if this thing carries on..

hi there!
There are many claims which get settled after a thorough investigation & on some occasions it really needs some more time than we may think initially!

Could you open up a bit more on this?

Thanks,

You're sure they said they want to talk to the cop? Not just get a copy of the report right? You do still have the truck in your possession right?

Well it might...are they referring this to their specail investigation unit? Have they given you reason to believe they think it's fraud....I could certainly see two red flags...canceling policy, and keyed car right before you cancel and trade it.... Shocked

The board had me shown as Logged-in, but when I made the above post it gave it the title of GUEST. So here it is again.

Maybe I don't know nuttin... but to me it would seem more likely that someone trying to commit a crime would be a little less up-front about their intention to change insurers / swap automobiles while an active claim is in progress. Wouldn't a criminal be more likely not to disclose those intentions in order to draw less attention to themselves and their claim??

Then after Cashing the check.. drop the old proverbial hammer.

I agree fred, if a person thought this thru (and were wanting to commit fraud) the smart thing would be to get the claim paid THEN cancel policy and trade truck...I don't know I'm just trying to play devils advocate and figure out what the problem is...and there are two there...I can't understand if the adjuster already inspected it, and is going back for a second look...maybe wants to check and see if damage looks fresh? And the thing about wanting to talk with the cop....that's troublesome as well, apparently the want the officers opinion about 'something'.....I do agree Fred, a smart crook would've put more thought into it, and I don't think the OP has done anything wrong, but apparently the carrier has 'some' reason for concern.....You'd be surprised the people that notify the carrier they are switching, then have a loss about a week prior...not that they've done anything wrong, but many times (not always) it warrants a second look...It will be interesting to know what the second look is all about and why they want to talk with the officer, clearly they feel he may be able to shead some light on something....

re: log in thing...that happens occasionally...i'm going to delete your first one..

I really would not have traded that truck or changes ins. companies until this claimed was resolved. that definately wasn't a wise move at all. It amy look suspicious that you treaded the truck in and changed ins. companies all within two weeks especially after not waiting until the claim was settled.
